Extended Essay – an element of Diploma Programme of the International Baccalaureate (DP IB). Every student of the Diploma Program of the International Baccalaureate at the end of the second year writing extended essay – scientific research in one of subjects. Writing extended essay allows the student to explore its interesting theme and introduces to different methods and ways of conducting research work and skills of its writing.

 

Researchers at the Virginia University learned how to work on a research essay as part of the Diploma Program of the International Baccalaureate affect the follow-up of graduates.

Writing extended essays as part of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme enhances student self-confidence, as in explorer and increases the desire and willingness to participate in future studies.
Graduates of the Diploma Programme of the International Baccalaureate firmly believe that extended writing helped them explore the different facets of the research work and prepare them for further scientific work.

 

Compared to students enrolled in AP (Advanced Placement) training program for university graduates of the Diploma Programme of the International Baccalaureate:

 

– Feel prepared to participate in college-level studies

– Carry out a research project at the Virginia University

– Proud of their research

– Intend to conduct research into the future

– Consider that received research skills important for future success

 

Respondents indicated that the writing of the extended essay has helped them develop skills such as the collection and evaluation of evidence, records management, time management, writing of written work.
Was found statistically significant association between points of extended essay and average points obtained by students between the first and last college courses.
