Essay on Mexican American Culture

(Part 2)

A blend of all of these aspects is what gives Mexico it’s culture. Living in San Diego California only minutes away from the border of Mexico, I can see very clearly how Mexico impacts the US and it’s culture. You can’t spit in this city without hitting an authentic Mexican Resturaunt. Personally I am a huge fan of Mexican food. And certainly you can see how a lot of Mexican immigrants are passionate and proud to be Mexican. You can also see how soccer is in the heart of almost every young, able person from Mexico.

The culture of the United States is a Western culture, and has been developing since long before the United States became a country. Its chief early influence was of British culture, due to colonial connectiions with the British that spread the English language, the legal system and other cultural inheritances. Other important influences came from other parts of Europe, especially countries from which large numbers immigrated such as Ireland, Germany, Poland, and Italy; the Native American peoples; Africa, especially the western part, of which the Ancestors of African-Americans; and young groups of immigrants. American culture also has shared influence on the cultures of its neighbors in the New World.

Due to the extent of American culture, there are many unique aspects and “sub-cultures” that exist within it’s borders. The cultural affiliations an individual in the United States may have commonly depend on social class, political orientation and a multitude of demographic characteristics such as race, ethnicity, sex and sexual orientation.[3] The strongest influences on American culture came from northern European cultures, most prominently from Germany, Ireland and England.[2] It is, however, paramount to remember that there are great differences within American culture which should therefore under no circumstance be seen as one large homogenous entity.
In my opinion, American culture is simply made up of many different cultures from around the globe. Its population is made of of immigrants, or people who’s ancestors were immgrants. This unique combmation of many cultures has created American Culture.
