Edit short story

1. Re-read and edit.

When you finish the story, read it and correct automatic, logical and semantic errors. In general, make sure that the action, the characters and their problems are introduced into the story and decided accordingly.
If you have time before edit the story aside for a few days or weeks. Take the distance from the story, so you can appreciate it more clearly when editing.

2. Ask for a second opinion.

Ask a relative or friend that you trust, see the complete story and make their own adjustments or suggestions. Ask them to make a real opinion about the story. Give them time to read and reflect on the story and give them a copy of the story, in which they will be able to make notes.
Consider all the comments received, and not just those who like them. Thank you for reading the story and do not argue with the received opinion.
Turn on all the amendments and the amended proposal that you consider necessary. The story would be better in view of constructive criticism, but you do not have to follow all the advice received, as not all are good. This is your story, and the last word is yours.

3. Do not give up.

You can give up when faced with challenges. You may fizzle out, angry on the characters, and feel guilty, killing beloved hero.
Know that, most likely, you will doubt in your abilities writers sooner or later. This is absolutely normal. You will feel that it is not necessary to continue and should be abandoned, and go to work as a waiter. When there are such thoughts, they can easily take over and make you give up writing.
One of the most difficult tasks of the writer – to overcome these feelings and continue to write. If you have any doubt, you are tired or you are tired, stop writing! You can stand up, walk, eat, watch TV, or do something to relax. When you come back, start with a clear head. Perhaps you still have the desire to write, then remind yourself of the good sides of your story about a successful paragraph, well thought-out dialogue, interesting characters, and congratulate yourself. You are doing something that most people are not capable of doing.
If someone else read your story, it can also serve as a source of support. Just tell yourself that you have finished the story because you want it. It does not matter if it’s not the best in the world of the story; are other. If your goal – to finish the story, then do it.

4. Read!

Nothing can help you learn how to write a good story better than reading good stories. Pay attention to the style and concise writing.
Reading various authors and styles will help to learn how to use different voices for each story and expand their creativity. Note how the authors describe the characters, dialogue and structure make the story line. Here are some tips:
“I, Robot” Isaac Asimov.
“Steps” Jerzy Kosinski.
“The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County” by Mark Twain.
“The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” by James Thurber.
“A Sound of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury.
“Three questions” by Lev Tolstoy.
“Brokeback Mountain,” Annie Proulx.
“Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” By Philip K. Dick.
Note: Many of these stories have been filmed and became the basis of other famous works. For example, a science fiction short story “A Sound of Thunder”, re-issued a record number of times, and introduces us to the “Butterfly Effect”. Philip K. Dick Stories realized in “Blade Runner” ( “Do Androids Dream of Electric”), “Total Recall” ( “We can remember everything for you wholesale”), “Minority Report” ( “Minority Report”), ” Turbidity “(“clouding “) and many others.

The ending of the story can be exciting. What really happened with Douglas Quayle (Quaid) at the end of “We can remember everything for you wholesale” ( “Total Recall”)?

Create your own style. With practice in your artwork will your unique voice. You can start with imitation of other writers or a specific genre. In the end, you just need to write, and you have your vote appears.

The story must have at least two time lines. There is an order in which the events took place, and there is the order in which you present the event readers. The time line is not necessarily the same.

If you can not brainstorm, try to draw a diagram or table; create around five main proposals for your story. It helps also within 5-30 minutes to write everything that comes to mind.

Brainstorm before starting to write.

If you want to stop writing a particular story, make sure that it has a very good reason, and not just an excuse. If you have a temporary hitch. Occasionally, you may come much more good idea. You can start working on a new idea, but if it is repeated, it will create difficulties because, in the end, you will be a lot of started, and none of the finished, the story.

If there is any song or melody that can set you on the desired fashion, turn on the music.
Perhaps you don’t want to warm up before writing the story. Many writers have passed this stage. However, it’s recommended to everyone to make at least once in their lifetime. Also, you are unlikely to be able to write a good story without planning.

Make sure that the story ends in the right place. All readers hate books that already have to end, but dragged one or two paragraph.

Carefully consider all elements of the story, for example, the main character, the scene, the time period, genre, secondary characters, enemies and conflicts, and the plot.
If something came to mind, for example, a house, or your dog, make a note of it and treat the idea. It almost always works.

You can write about some event in the past or fantasies. If you write about a real event from the past, then you might want to embellish it a little bit and make it more exciting. The main character can be copied from themselves or from their friends and relatives. But be careful, because real people are not as dynamic as fictional characters.

Conduct research. If you write about 1950, then ask the trends of the time, such as family relations, clothing, slang, etc. If you write without such information, the story will turn out amateur, and you wait for the numerous criticism from people who know those days.

Do not overreach. If you do not have any idea, do something else. Go back to the story in a few hours or the next day, after a good rest, and you will be surprised what you can do.
You do not have friends or relatives who can give an honest assessment of your story? Try to start a writing group where you can get tips, tricks, and, hopefully, quality criticism. Most likely, you can find them at a local club, but there are also on-line group.

Do not forget about the format. In this there is no need, as long as you do not show the story to others. For example: the story is centered? There are chapters? Are the fonts differ? There paragraphs? You back to the beginning of each paragraph? All of the above – just ideas that will help to give a better appearance to the story of his demonstration to others.
