How to compose a poem
Creating a poem – is the same as that monitoring the peace within you or around you. In verse can talk about everything from love to the rusty gate on the old farm. If you like it, and so you get rid of stress, you’re doing it right. Here’s how to start.
Find your spark
The poem may start as a small rhyming fragment may be of one or two lines that appear out of nowhere and can only write the rest of the poem around them. Here are a few ways to find their spark:
Play the game “Poems about the theft in a large scale.” Collect several collections of poems by different authors or print about 10-12 poems from the Internet. Then, randomly select one line of each verse, trying to focus only on the very first line you will notice, not to choose “the best”. Write down all these lines on a separate sheet of paper and try to connect them to formulated poem. Overlay of two completely different lines of poems can give you a new idea for your own verse.
Write down all the words and phrases that come to mind when you are thinking about something. Allow yourself to shift the “all” your ideas into words.
It may seem complicated, but do not be afraid to talk about your true feelings. Emotions create poetry, and if you lie about your feelings, then in verse it will be very noticeable. Write down your emotions as quickly as possible, and when you have finished writting, you walk around in your list, you will begin to emerge the desired association, and pour
the verse itself.
Try to stay within a certain scene, which you want to write. For example, if you want to describe the nature, then go into the woods or any park in the neighborhood. Nature can inspire you to a few lines, even if they are not excellent.
Read and listen to poetry
Get inspiration from the works of poets that you admire. Explore the large number of works from poems that refer to the classics to famous lyric. As you begin to engage in more than poetry, your aesthetic sense will become clearer form.
To train yourself and meet with the same enthusiastic people, go to the public reading of poems (check with your university or local bookstore for these events, or look for events on the Internet).
Find the lyrics to your favorite songs and read them as poetry. You may be very surprised when you start to read them off the page, instead of listening to or singing them.
For example, you want to write a poem to express your love to your boyfriend or girlfriend, you might want to perpetuate in the memory of a tragic event or maybe you just want to get a good evaluation of literature in the school. Think about why you are writing this verse, and who is your target audience, and thereafter continued to compose.
Decide what style of poetry is best for you
There are a lot of poetic styles. As a poet, you can choose from a huge number of forms: limericks, sonnets, villanelle, sestina, haiku … the list can go on and on.
You can also decide to give up all forms and write a free verse. The choice is not always obvious, but the most suitable form exists by itself as soon as you enter into the workflow.
Let it will be easy to do
Pick the right words
It was said that if the novel – a “words in the proper order,” that poem – it’s the “best” of the words in the correct order.
Think about the words you use as building bricks of different sizes and shapes. Some words are perfectly suited to each other, and some do not. You will be working on your verse, while you do not get to build a strong structure.
Use only the necessary words and those that reflect the meaning of your poem. Carefully chose the words. The difference between the same-sounding words or synonyms can lead you to an interesting play on words.
Spreadsheet – is very easy to interchange of words and checking rhymes in columns. In each cell type in only one syllable. When you’re done editing, you can move the text in a Word document to print all beautiful.
Use accurate images and vivid descriptions
Most of poetry appeals to our senses, to help the reader to dive into the text. Here are a few points that should think about when you build specification.
Love, hatred, happiness: it’s all abstract concepts. Most of the poems (if not all) speak about emotions and other abstract concepts. Despite this, it’s difficult to build a strong verse, using only abstract concepts – and it’s not even that interesting. The key to success will be the replacement of abstract images on specific things that you can experience: a rose, a shark, a burning fire. You can come in handy concept of impersonation. Incarnation – is an object, multiple objects or a set of events (all the real things), that cause you a certain emotion or idea of the verse.
Really strong poetry not only enjoys the clear images, it also describes them vividly. Show your readers and listeners, as you say – help them to experience the imaginary world of the verse to yourself. Insert the verse several “sensor” points. These are the words that describe what you hear, see, feel, taste, touch, and smell, so that the reader can identify and compare it with their own experience.
It’s better to give a few examples, than just a pure intellectual description. A simple example would be the following, compare “He made a loud noise,” or “He made a loud sound like a hippo ate 100 steel nut pies by his metal teeth.”
Use of poetic devices to enrich the beauty and importance of your poem
The most famous poetic device – it rhymes. Rhyme can add your alarm the lines, strengthen the meaning of the poem to make more coherent. It can also make your poem sweeter. But do not overdo it with the rhyme. Otherwise, it is tantamount to a crime.
If you choose to rhyme, there are three basic types from which you can choose: a couplet, tercet and ballad stanza.
Couplet – two phrases that rhyme at the end.
In tercet three lines. 1 and 2 rhyme, then 4 and 5 and 3 and 6.
In the ballad stanza rhyme the second and fourth lines.
Other poetic techniques – the size, the metaphor, assonance, alliteration and repetition. If you do not know what it is, then read books on poetry, or look for information on the Internet. Poetic techniques can form the basis of the verse, but if they pay themselves too much attention, they can destroy it.
Add “turn” at the end of your poem
Leave your very strong message at the end of your verse. The last line of poem – it like the culmination of every joke – that causes an emotional reaction. Give the reader food for thought after reading your verse.
Do not try to explain your poem; let the reader be involved in the verse in its understanding and definition of your message.
Make it happen
Listen to your verse
Although today most people reading poetry in printed form, poetry was an acoustic art for thousands of years, and the sound of the verse is still of paramount importance. During the writing and editing of your verse, read it aloud and listen to how it sounds.
verse structure is mainly built on the rhythm or rhyme or both. Learn the classics (sonnets and epic poems) for inspiration.
In oral English more based on the iambic pentameter, where we are – this is the change of stressed and unstressed syllables within 10 syllables. Many poetry created in the iambic pentameter, for example, in Shakespeare, where the lines begin with unstressed monosyllabic words, such as “an” or “the”, to start a “checkerboard” layout.
So poems can be songs. It is easier to find a melody for a standard size, so maybe you want to remove some of the words or, conversely, to add a few syllables in each line. Keep this in mind. If you really believe this, then maybe someone will like your poem, and it becomes a song.
Edit your poem
When the foundation of poem is already written, set it aside, and then read it out loud to yourself. Look for a balance between the choice of words and rhyme. Eliminate unnecessary words and replace the images that do not work.
Some people are editing the entire verse at once, and some do it often.
Do not be afraid to re-write your poem, if some part of it is not suitable. In some verses are strings that just simply do not fit as element and can be replaced.
Share your work
It may be difficult to criticize your own verse, but after the first adjustment, try to reach out to your friends, or in a poetic group (there are many on the Internet) so that they revered your verse. You may not like their response, and you do not have to take all of their comments, but you can hear such things that will help make your poem better.
Reviews – it’s always good. Share your verse and ask friends to comment your work. Ask them to be honest, even if it is painful to listen to.
Never apologize for your work, when you hear criticism, on the contrary, focus on the opinion of your readers. Think about their reactions and edit as you see fit.
Offer a critique of the work to others. Such an offer can help you develop the critical thinking that you will be able to be applied to your poetry.
Emotions play an important role in poetry. If some kind of emotion does not intertwined with a poem, your reader will see and understand that you have invented.
Resolve the problem of poetic block easy, you can always carry a notebook (some call these notebooks Living Books), in it you can record all the ideas for new poems, which only come to your mind. Creative ideas do not always visit you at the most convenient time for you. And then, when you are ready to take up writing a poem, then you just take notes and find the most you liked the idea.
Do not disappoint yourself by offering too aggressively your new poems to people who do not appreciate poetry. This is the same error that can only fight off all your wish to become a poet. It’s always difficult to explain that you’re just trying to find yourself in something new. It’s best to refer to that one who will be able to support (who also appreciate the art of the written syllable), and who will kindly give you the criticism.
Avoid cliches and frequently used forms. “Everything is in your hands” – this idea has nothing original.
If you want to give someone read your poems, first ask yourself, “If these verses show me someone else, I would have like it?” If the answer is “no”, then continue to edit them.
When you start to create a poem, then, maybe you can help, if you write one noun in the middle of the sheet (for example, the word love) and start thinking about the words that are appropriate to this word (or Friendship Happiness). If you do this before you start to compose a poem, then you will have a set of words that you can use. This can greatly help beginners.
